​Sunito’s long-held dream of working with Kuma was set in motion after a chance visit to the Kuma-designed Great (Bamboo) Wall House in Beijing's countryside. With its breathtaking marriage of traditional Japanese design principles—namely elegance in simplicity—and nature, the house made an indelible impression on Sunito.
To achieve the monumental vision for the ambitious Waterloo project, Sunito toured Japan in order to experience the best of Japanese architecture and its effects on the daily rhythms of life.
Waterloo is experiencing a significant transformation. Formerly an industrial precinct, Crown Group has established a new vision for the inner-city area and will transform it into a premier Sydney destination. At the core of this transformation is the aim to establish and foster a new community in Waterloo, with a focus on resort-style living and a deep connection to nature—right in the heart of inner Sydney.

INTERIORS TO INSPIRE
In addition to designing three of the magnificent buildings comprising Mastery by Crown Group, Koichi Takada also conceptualised and curated the interiors.
Inspired by the interplay of light (hikari) and shadow (kage), each interior features modern and sophisticated fittings and furnishings. Embracing a zen manner, the unruffled design essence is born from calm consideration of what enriches residents’ health and happiness. The intention being to create a sense of retreat, an escape from today’s demanding urban lifestyle; similar to the effect that nature has on lifting energy levels and recharging the mind to find balance in life.
